Meet the Caherconnell Collies

Shelter from the weather and watch our skilled Caherconnell shepherds work with their clever, captivating collies to deliver phenomenal sheepdog demonstrations. Visitors of all ages watch in awe as the collies perform with incredible skill and enthusiasm. After their hard work, the dogs love nothing more than a few cuddles and selfies with their new fans.

Older and wiser, Lee is the most experienced member of our team. She is particularly good at close in work where lots of know how is needed on the part of the dog.

Caherconnell Sheepdog

Lynn is a classic crossover dog working with both cattle and sheep – the eye candy of the group, she enjoys taking a little spin around as her party piece.

Rose is the fast mover of our group – keep a close eye on her while she is patient with the sheep she can be gone in 60 seconds.

Jess is the youngest member of the team – she is still learning her trade and sometimes finds working in partnership with the older dogs a challenge.

About

Demonstrations

The shepherd guides the dogs to retrieve the sheep from across the Burren landscape and skilfully drives them back to their holding pen. Using whistle and voice, he demonstrates a deep, symbiotic bond with his loyal dogs. The sheepdogs work with unwavering focus and determination, refusing to rest until the job is done. Once the task is complete, playtime begins as the shepherd introduces the various breeds while the dogs bound around, eager for belly rubs and cuddles. Visitors can also enjoy cuddling baby lambs and capturing plenty of photos and selfies with our photogenic animals—and shepherds!

“The sheepdogs are the star of this establishment! The demonstration was enjoyable, but being able to pet and interact with these sweet animals was truly a highlight for me.

There is a small cafe that was very good and had a nice selection of sandwiches, soups, coffee, and treats. The visit to Fort was informative. Our guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. I highly recommend this experience for anyone traveling to Ireland!

This experience was really cool! The border collies are so well-trained and it’s amazing to see them in action. We got a lot of information on how the dogs are trained and then see it all in practice. There’s a gift shop, bathrooms, and a little Cafe here as well
