Experience the Burren’s living traditions

Café

Mountain Haven Café

The cafe continues a tradition begun 3 generations ago by Mary-Ann Davoren who ran a small tea room and Bed and Breakfast at the site in her time. Mary-Ann enjoyed meeting people and sharing the produce of her farm and kitchen and we like to think we maintain a standard she would have approved of today.

about

Mountain Haven Café

Mountain Haven Café is managed by Marie and her team and delivers the very best in locally produced food and produce. Marie is a phenomenal baker and it is very difficult to resist her fabulous cakes and treats. The Café offers a range of freshly made sandwiches and wraps, homemade soups, a wide variety of salads and an array of sweet treats and cakes. We use only the award winning Badger & Dodo coffee roasted in small batches in Fermoy Co. Cork. We are happy to cater for groups and lunches and picnics can be ordered in advance.

About

Ailwee Burren Gold Cheese

Aillwee Burren Gold Cheese and Caherconnell Farm share a vibrant, co-dependent partnership. The Friesian herd at Caherconnell Farm produces the rich milk that gives this cheese its distinctive flavour. Each morning, our cheesemaker, Damien, milks 700 litres of milk from a herd of 65 cows on the farm. He transforms this milk into around 70 kilos of Burren Gold Gouda. By milking the cows just once a day—rather than the usual twice—we support the cows’ wellbeing while producing milk that gives the cheese its creamier texture. One of these cheeses is naturally smoked using oak shavings. Few farmhouse cheesemakers still practise traditional smoking methods. This process adds another unique element to Burren Gold Cheese .
